Day #4. Arrival in Pamplona

We walked probably about 11 miles to Pamplona.  The photo is of the ancient walls around the city.  We actually walked over an ancient drawbridge to enter the city --  no crocodiles in the moat though.  We arrived around 2:00 pm so we were able to get beds in Albergue Jesus y Maria which is a luxury Albergue compared to the others we've stayed in. We are sharing a bunk, Marty up and me down in a nice alcove with 2 other bunks.  Our neighbors are a father and 9 year old son from Barcelona.  The boy, Paolo, wants to practice his English.

Had a nice HOT shower and now we are off to explore the city.

  1. Dear Nancita, sorry if I sound like a mother (well, that's what defines me hahaha), but you might want to start your day a bit earlier. Soon, it will become more difficult to find an albergue since the camino becomes more traveled when getting closer to Castilla, León, and - overall - Galicia...
Watch out for the weekend hikers (pretending to be peregrinos), they will be competing for albergues, and since they are a lot fresher than the real pilgrims, they will get the good ones...
Check the Spanish people and notice how they leave by 6. That´s how they find the best albergues, the best food, the best wine, and look always rested :) Al que madruga, Dios lo ayuda / The early bird gets the worm.
It's true what they say, that the first 2 weeks are to discipline your body; the next 2 to work out your mind and memories, and the last days are to recover and strengthen you spirit.
Should I give you a call at 5:45 a.m.??? LOL!!!!

  2. Good advice from Irma! I love the pictures and posts Nancy--thanks for bringing us along with you on your trek. Make sure my mom doesn't overdo it with an aching knee. More photos please :) xoxo

    1. I'll try to get your mom moving by 6:00, but she doesn't like to be pushed.

  3. Irma speaks great truths. The American laziness might set in. ON A PILGRIMAGE no less.I love being in your knapsack for the stories. I'm trying to not eat much Frodo so that I don't weigh too much. Kev
