Day#11 "Motel" for pilgrims? Cacabelo

Sticking with oír plan to stop walking a round 1:00, we found ourselves at an Albergue that sounded interesting in the book.  It has little rooms each with 2 beds arranged in a semicircle around a big patio with an old church in the middle.  We feel a bit like nuns in our cell, but it's quite comfy.  We've had time to shower, wash clothes and take a nap.  We walked just under 20km in about 6 hours with a breakfast break after a couple of hours.  Stopped in a little cafe where I saw an Irish woman having lovely fried eggs and a hunk of toasted bread.  I ordered 2 cafés con leche and a plate of eggs -- he misunderstood and brought 2 cafés and 2 plates of eggs.  Marty doesn't eat eggs so I had to eat 4 eggs- no problem!  I'll probably be the only person walking the Camino who doesn't lose weight.

The walk today, starting about 6:30 am was lovely after we got past the city of Pomferrada -rolling hills, vineyards, apple trees and holm oaks.  It felt good to be walking again.  When we arrived by bus yesterday, we found our way to the municipal Albergue and got beds.  We felt strangely sort of disoriented like we were outsiders.  I think it was because we weren't seeing any familiar faces, and everyone there seemed to be Italian or German.  We heard no English and people seemed to be in groups and were very busy cooking, etc.  I think after a day of walking today we are feeling like pilgrims again.

  1. When my mother and I were in Ireland she was in a pub and ordered a ham and cheese sandwich. She got a ham sandwich and a cheese sandwich. Nancy you are our egg gal. Glad that you kafirs have not body or mind ails. And that you are on foot again. The walking is the prayer of the pilgrimage. Which is why you feel off when you are on a bus. Pray pray pray.
